Folk music

There is folk music in all parts of the world. It often tells about people's way of life, how they used to live or stories from local mythology. It is passed on by oral tradition and is rarely written down. Folk music is music of the people and is generally performed by ordinary people

In the US folk music was performed by artist such as Woodie Guthrie, who in turn influenced Bob Dylan, who wrote songs in a folk style protesting about things like the Vietnam War; these songs were known as protest songs.
